In the quest for ever-more outrageous shopping hauls, many who were featured in the series were shown misusing coupons, knowingly using them on the wrong products, and using high-value coupons they bought online, many of which turned out to be counterfeit.
And stores that normally imposed purchase limits or double-coupon caps for normal shoppers, waived their rules for the benefit of TV. North Carolina-based Lowes Foods publicly expressed regret for allowing an episode to be recorded in one of its stores. We definitely made a poor decision by participating in the show. TLC and Sharp Entertainment deflected blame for any unethical or illegal acts depicted in the series. Stores and manufacturers began imposing new limits to discourage anyone from trying to emulate what they had seen on TV.
Help people who were struggling to support their families. Unfortunately, many took it as an opportunity for another hustle. By its fourth and last season in late , Extreme Couponing producers seemed to tone down the outrageousness, focusing on more personal stories and modest hauls. But by then, viewers had largely moved on to other things. Others reflecting back on that time, are divided over whether the show had any positive impact in the long run. Was it potentially a necessary evil? While couponing changed in many ways as a result of the show, some of the biggest changes between couponing back then and today have nothing to do with Extreme Couponing at all.
And I think a lot of us would have killed for that back in the day. Much of reality TV is of the moment, after all. Of course, the economy today has taken another turn for the worse, for entirely different reasons. And many who are hurting financially may discover a newfound interest in coupons. So Extreme Couponing may have passed its expiration date. But couponing itself is alive and well.
I wish couponing would go back to before Extreme Couponing tv show. Coupon inserts basically disappeared. Your email address will not be published. So the new special aims to focus on the positive, less objectionable, moments of the series. And the charitable focus puts a warm and fuzzy sheen on the franchise, just in time for Thanksgiving.
But remember, after Thanksgiving comes Black Friday. The tide quickly turns from counting your blessings, to trampling other shoppers and doing whatever it takes to get all the best deals.
So once the season of giving transforms into the season of getting, if the special has whet your appetite for more televised couponing, there will be plenty of time to catch up on Extreme Couponing reruns. Just like a certain store in my city where they want you to pay for an anual membership to get discounts. Are you kidding me? Especialy when I hardly shop your store.
I have received some very good coupons for free at differant websites but I find them hard to come by. Good luck to the lucky ones, I wish I was one of them.

We may all not be able to accomplish what these fabulous shoppers have done but it gets us motivated to at least save money and shop wisely. I hope the show comes back on with new episodes and season. I enjoy watching the show. I watch the reruns all time. I wish we could extreme coupon in the real world again. Seems so far away now that the greedy retail giants have taken double coupons away and stopped releasing coupons that actually matter.
The golden era is sadly over. An Albertsons was turned into a Market Street here in Texas and the good sales and coupons have been eliminated.
As well as jobs from the United they closed down to open it. But hey, their sales have tripled because they slapped some paint on it and put in a hardwood floor with fragrance running through the building. I wish I was kidding. We, the couponers, have lost every battle since I wish there would be a new season of Extreme Couponing.
